How to Run a Tailoring Shop: Orders, Deposits, Delivery

Run a tailoring shop without lost measurements, unpaid balances or remakes. A practical order-to-delivery guide for UAE tailors.

Tailor's scissors, measuring tape and fabric

In a tailoring shop, the biggest costs are rarely the fabric. They are the mistakes: a measurement written on a scrap of paper, a detail that never reached the tailor, a balance nobody remembered to collect. Each one means a remake, an unhappy customer, or money you never see.

The good news is that most of these problems have the same solution: capture every detail once, at the counter, and pass it on clearly.

1. Take the whole order at the counter, in one go

A good order records everything the tailor needs: custom or ready-made, the fabric, the model, the lining, the buttons and the size. If your order screen is simple, any staff member can fill it in correctly, not only your most experienced one. TexPOS has an easy order screen for exactly this.

2. Save every customer’s measurements

Regular customers should never be measured twice. Keep their measurements on file, including special ones such as shaila and ghutra, so the next order starts from what you already know. We explain how in saving customer measurements in TexPOS.

3. Give the tailor a clear job order

Details get lost between the counter and the workshop. A job order with a sketch, printed or sent straight to the tailor’s WhatsApp, means the tailor works from the same information the customer agreed to. It saves phone calls and reduces remakes.

4. Take deposits and track what is owed

Many tailoring orders are paid in parts: a deposit at the start and the balance at delivery. That is normal, but only if it is tracked. Record partial payments and deposits, watch overdue balances, and keep each customer’s payment history. You will always know who has collected, and who still owes you.

5. Watch your fabric like cash

Fabric is sold by the meter and other items by the piece. Track both, with low-stock alerts, so you do not find out you are out of a popular fabric when a customer is standing at the counter. Record purchases and expenses too, so you can see what the shop really earns.

6. Send invoices in the way customers prefer

Customers are used to receiving things on WhatsApp. Sending invoices by print or WhatsApp keeps them informed and gives both sides a clear record of what was ordered and paid.

7. Learn where your customers come from

Do customers find you through Instagram, a friend, or by walking past? Customer source tracking shows which channel brings the most customers, so you spend your effort where it works. Reports bring sales, payments and costs together, and multi-branch support with staff permissions helps as the business grows.
